Ive been chasing something that makes pages pop up to different ad sites and such and its really annoying and Im sure its slowing FF down. I have Malwarebytes, Spybot and AVG all working and they find nothing. Between this annoyance and the constant flash issues and crashes, Im ready to use something else if I cant find solutions. Im using win 8.1 fully updated. No other issues on this notebook either.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Did you do a malware check with some of the above listed programs?

Try at least AdwCleaner if you have done additional scans.
