Any way to get the quick filter expression above the message list in vertical view?

See the attached screenshot.

I have a fairly large display so I prefer to use the vertical view (with message pane displayed to the right of the message list pane).

I use quick filters / searches quite a lot when finding old messages. When doing this, my attention is focused on the message list pane, but in order to type an expression I have to drag my focus over to the far right of the screen, above the message pane. Logically, this area of the screen should be associated with the message, not the message list.

So a simplistic solution might be available if I ask if there's any way to customise the location of elements in the quick filter bar, like I have illustrated on the screenshot?

But I think the fundamental solution is to make the quick filter bar part of the message list pane, instead of the current arrangement in which it is part of the larger pane that contains both the message list pane and message pane.

I'll be glad of any advice on how to either fix this for myself, or get it fixed for others to share.

Ah, found the bugzilla database - was looking for link on support site but as I couldn't find one, I assumed this channel was being used to screen against excessive defects in bugzilla.

Anyway, a quick search found me https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=592248 - in which someone complained the quick filter bar was too short in vertical view and this was solved by extending the bar over the top of the message pane.

I guess preference will depend on screen size. I'll take up the issue via bugzilla, and may provide a fix to satisfy both camps if I get time one of these days.

Should be clear enough, but according to http://kb.mozillazine.org/Window_layout_-_Thunderbird

what I called message list pane = thread pane
