Latest update to Windows 10 opens my messages in Edge rather than a new tab. Why?

Firefox is my default browser. It's v 43.0.2. I'm using Thunderbird v 38.5.0. With the Windows 10 update last night, Thunderbird opens messages in Edge rather than a new tab or Firefox. My Thunderbird options are set to open a new email in a new tab, not Edge.

Thunderbird opens links with the default browser. So if you want to get links opened in Firefox, it needs to be set as your default browser. Windows 10 has changed the way how the default browser is set. If in doubt Google is your friend, or ask in a Microsoft forum.

I have Win10 Pro factory installed. I have set Firefox as the default (which Windows does not show, but which still opens any HTML file in FF by default). However: Clicking a link on an e-mail message in Tbird 45 opens the link in Edge, not in FF.

This issue is persistent regardless of appearance/persona and add-ons.
