I have McAfee Total Protection on my computer. Is that the reason? Clicking on the icon gives a 403 access error.

When I check the Firefox options for Search at start-up I always find Google - which I want, and McAfee Safe Search. If I don't delete McAfee Safe Search as my preferred search engine, searches default to Yahoo - which I don't want.

Hi qorval.

Yes, if you see any McAfee icons in Firefox user interface, it's probably thanks to some McAfee add-on installed in Firefox. If you do not want to have it there, please read how to Disable or remove Add-ons.
