I have an application at work for which I need Java 7. The newer versions of Java do not work with it. I've been using Firefox 41.0.2 just fine with Java 7R17 (32 bit), but now that I have upgraded to Firefox 43.0.1, Java 7R17 no longer works. Even if I just go to the "verify java" page (https://www.java.com/verify/), the Java plugin in Firefox locks up and after a few seconds I get the following pop up window:

Warning: Unresponsive plugin

may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the plugin now, or you can continue to see if the plugin will complete.

Don't ask me again Continue Stop Plugin

I encountered this in Firefox 42 also, and was forced to roll back to 41, which I will be doing now as well. Please let me know if there is a way to fix this.

Thanks for the link, but none of the options seem to fit the trouble I am having. I can't upgrade Java, because I need Java 7 update 17 for my work applications. Nor can I disable it. Something happened between Firefox 41 and 42 such that the same installation of Java 7 update 17 on my computer no longer works.

I've called the big guys to help you. Good luck.

It also has been blocked by the add on blocker: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire.../p422 Disabling the blocked add ons in Firefox puts your browser at risk.

Thank you, guigs, for your reply. However, when I installed Firefox 43.0.1 and tried to launch the applications that use Java, I was shown a window that stated the application was potentially unsafe, like in the screenshot for Flash from your link. But I was able to click "Activate Java," then I selected "Allow and remember," and that is when all of Firefox (even other tabs) froze up. So I'm thinking that the add-on blocker just warned me about the potential issue, but that something else is preventing it from running, and causing all of Firefox to freeze. Also, 41.0.2 shows the same warnings for the Java applications, but after I selected Activate Java and "Allow and Remember" I am able to use the applications.

HI Lemurman, Fred also mentioned to troubleshoot with Java support. I took a look there and if there are multiple versions of Java installed you might run into some issues: http://java.com/en/download/help/troubleshoot_java.xml
