When my wife starts Firefox on her MacBook, it starts with the "general" question page and does not operate correctly. How should fix?
The screen is mostly blank and then goes to the general page related to startup and downloads. Thus far, we have not been able to return to actually use the site to search.
We are currently updated to 44.0.2.
Please let us know how to proceed.

Firefox uses a vertical bar ('|') to separate multiple home pages.
You can check the home page setting to see if the about:preferences page is included as one of the home pages (|about:preferences#general).
- Firefox > Preferences > General > Startup: Home page
- https://support.mozilla.org/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page
The about:preferences page gets included as one of the home pages if you click "Use Current Page(s)" to set the home page and about:preferences is open in a tab. If you want to use the "Use Current Pages" button in "Options/Preferences > General" then you can pin the tab with the about:preferences page via the right-click context menu of the tab to prevent including about:preferences to the home page setting. You can drag the globe/padlock at the left end of the location/address bar to the toolbar Home button to set a single page as the home page.
You lost me at "If you want to use the "Use Current Pages" button in "Options/Preferences > General" then you can pin the tab with the about:preferences page via the right-click context menu of the tab to prevent including about:preferences to the home page setting. You can drag the globe/padlock at the left end of the location/address bar to the toolbar Home button to set a single page as the home page."
Can you restate this in a clearer manner?
In any case, Firefox is moving very sluggishly and frozen much of the time. Would it be useful to delete the program and then re-install it? Please advise on how to make that happen.
Thank you.
Type about:config<enter> in the address bar. If a warning screen comes up, press the Be Careful button. At the top of the screen is a search bar. Type browser.startup.homepage.
Click on this to edit. Look for |about:preferences#general or |about:preferences and remove it.
Did you check the home page setting?
You can check the home page setting in Options/Preferences > General:
- Tools > Options > General > Startup: Home page
- https://support.mozilla.org/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page
Firefox supports multiple home pages separated by '|' (pipe) symbols.
