I've been receiving pop-ups informing me that 'You are currently browsing with Firefox and your video player might be outdated, please update to latest version for best performance', with terms & conditions but does not mention which software I'm supposed to allow access for. Please confirm if Firefox send this message?

That is fake as the Firefox browser nor Mozilla would never send such updates. Those behind this fake popup are trying to tricl less experienced Firefox and or Windows users into install malware of some sort.

If you were to install it you would then infect your computer if you were using Windows and not Mac OSX.
