The main toolbar in the Write (composition) window has a Smileys button; how can I remove it?
The toolbar in question is the one that appears (by default?) just above the text window and includes various text-formatting buttons, e.g. font colour, bold, italic. When I click the "Customize" button at the top of the window, there is no reference to this toolbar. Nor does there seem to be any relevant add-on/plugin that controls it.
Normally, to remove a customizable button, it is only necessary to drag the button into the "Customize" window. Nothing happens.

I think you are referring to the Formatting Bar. At the top of the mail composition window you should have a series of menus: go to View > Toolbars and untick 'Formatting Bar'.

Sorry, but no use.
It is only the one Smiley button that I want to get rid of; the other formatting buttons are important to me, especially as the keyboard shortcuts do not always work. And even there, the View/Toolbars/Customize option does not apply to the Formatting Bar.
If I right-click my Formatting Bar, I get a Customize window and I can drag the smiley button to and fro.
But I wonder what it is about a smiley button that offends you. Will you also be looking to disable ;, - and ) to prevent users creating them the old fashioned way? ;-)
