hi timothyh2ster, this sounds like an issue with adware on your device, so please perform all these steps:

  1. refresh firefox (this will keep your bookmarks and passwords)
  2. afterwards go to the firefox menu ≡ > addons > extensions and in case there are still extensions listed there, disable them.
  3. finally run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner to make sure that adware isn't present in other places of your system as well.

I did not realise adwcleaner worked on a Mac but Malwarebytes does have a Mac version:https://www.malwarebytes.com/antimalware/mac/ .

It may also be worth checking out this for a quick free scan. The bleepingcomputrer site is a respected site:

Thanks for your help and links to malware app. This however, as I have now discovered, is my bad. When I created the page where this happened, the link was not a known good link, but one that went nowhere. So when this happened Suddenlink stepped in(still not good, I should have gotten a 404 error.) Maybe I need to design my pages so 404 errors do come up. Anyway, thanks again, Mozilla rocks!
