I loaded lightning 4.7.2 to my Thunderbird 45.2.0 a few months ago and it worked fine. Today I went to open it, the side task bar shoes no events and is unresponsive, the calendar opens up but with no calendar dates and everything is blank and that too is unresponsive. Have my entries been wiped out?

Go to the Add Ons page and remove Lightning. Then reinstall it.

Your calendar data is separate from the program so it should pick that up when you get Lightning working again.

Both Thunderbird and Lightning store your data in the Profile and this is independent of the program files. You can usually work on the programs safely and not disturb the data.

But with computers anything can happen and backups are a good idea. This tells you how to backup your profile. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb
