New windows never open maximized: Is this possible to set as default?

So I use Control_N to open a new window. It always opens about 90% size. I drag it to full size then close the window expecting it to remember but it doesn't. Is this possible setting it a different way?

Try a different test: After stretching the first window, press Ctrl+n to open another. Does that one follow the new size?

If not, it's possible the file that stores window and dialog sizes and certain other UI customizations has become corrupted. You can rename the file to restore default sizing.

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer.

Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
  • (menu bar) File > Exit

Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename xulstore.json to something like xulstore.old. If you see a file named localstore.rdf, rename that one to localstore.old.

Start Firefox back up again. Do windows display and retain sizing normally again?

Another thing that started coming up recently, in case this applies to you:

When you are in a truly maximized (non-resizable window), you would expect a new window launched from the maximized window also to be maximized.

However, if you enable the Title Bar, then instead of a maximized window you get a resizable window. Title Bar is turned on and off using the Customize feature. See: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars.

This seemed to work. Now its normal. Thank you very much. Nothing like the proverbial Reset switch.

I did have the Title Bar turned off. I need to maximize vertical space as I only have a 1920x1080 24" monitor. Maybe when I upgrade later to a 2560 x 1440 27" or larger curved monitor I can be more generous.  :)

Actually, it works better with the title bar turned off (default setting), so no rush on that upgrade.
