Firefox has been crashing regularly and more often over the past month! I updated to the current version when it became available, but I uninstalled and reinstalled the program earlier this week. I have disabled and re-enabled add-ons, continually clear the cache and browser history, run regular antimalware scans. Nothing is making a difference.

I'm trying to upload my crash report but it doesn't seem to be cooperating. Since January 1, I have had 28 crashes; the worst day was 1/2, when there were 11. Since the "submitted crash reports.xht" is still trying to upload, I can't currently attach a photo of a page showing the most recent crashes.

What do I need to do?

Thanks in advance!

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

While still in Safe Mode,

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers/letters, click it to Submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

If you can't get Firefox to open, you will have to do this the hard way. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozillacrashreporter Open the file browser / explorer on your computer. Note: You may have to enable Show Hidden Folders / Files. Enter this in the address bar;

Windows: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted Win 7/Vista: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted Win XP/2000: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted

Mac OS: /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Crash Reports/submitted Linux: /home/<username>/.mozilla/firefox/Crash Reports/submitted

Copy the last 5-7 Recent File Names in the folder. Post the information in the reply box below.

Thanks for your quick reply!

Even in Safe Mode, I'm still getting a lot of "Not Responding" messages. Currently only have three tabs open.

Most of the reports had not been submitted. When I clicked many of them, there was a page that said "We couldn't find the Crash ID you're after. If you recently submitted this crash, it may still be in the queue.

If you believe this message is an error, please submit a Bugzilla ticket describing what happened, and please include the URL for this page."

Should have thought of copying the items--thought they would have uploaded in the attachment. Here are the most recent, but there are many more...

Thanks!

Have to reconstruct my response since I apparently got logged out of here.

At the end of this, I will post the crash reports since Friday. There are many more now. Some of these came up when I wasn't actively online, and there are many from last night and this morning.

Bitdefender updates itself and was deactivated until yesterday afternoon for several days because I forgot to reactivate it after something I did early last week. I picked that program because it doesn't seem to be the resource hog that AVG is, and I hadn't noticed any issues since I started using it sometime last year. Maybe I'm wrong. Had to reboot this morning because it caught something. I have to leave for several hours, so I will see what happens when I deactivate it later.

When Firefox and Adobe Flash are running, sometimes the task manager indicates that they are running high! Right now, with one Firefox window and three tabs open, plus Notepad, 48% memory, Firefox is at 327,000k, continually fluctuating.

I have continued to run Firefox in Safe Mode. In spite of that, I continue to get "Not Responding" messages on my active tab with so little open. This is very frustrating!

I did a mem check yesterday; there were no issues, allegedly.

This morning, for the first time in a week or so, I've gotten several "unresponsive script" pop-ups (pic is too large to post). In the past, have reset the timing according to the recommendation, but they keep coming back. Will try again when I get back home.

Another issue where my screen became a colorful light show started within the past couple of weeks, and the only thing I could do was restart the machine. Research indicates it might be needing a new video card and have been investigating what I need to get...

That are hangs in the Shockwave Flash plugin.

You can check for issues caused by plugins.

  • set plugins to "Ask to Activate" on the about:addons page ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Plugins)
  • plugins are not affected by Firefox Safe Mode

You can check for problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions and hardware acceleration in Firefox and try this:

Thanks! Just saw this as I was about to leave for several hours. I think some of these I have done but will report back later.

Okay, didn't work on this again until this morning. Everything was already updated. I disabled the protected mode. I originally wasn't in Firefox safe mode, so the HTML5 video kept crashing without an option to send an error message; the Non Html5 ran fine. Now, in safe mode, both run fine. I just have to manually allow Adobe Flash to run.

Will report more later.

Still operated in safe mode last night. Pages load very slowly. Firefox was running 555,800, 62% memory, three tabs open. One tab had an unresponsive script, and when I tried to open another window to change the timing after looking on Chrome for the solution, everything went gray and the page took forever to open. The loading circle continued for quite some time, even after the tabs were no longer graying over the page content.

Closed the window. Disabled Bitdefender and defaulted script time.

Now, it is morning. Didn't open FF in safe mode initially. Task Manager shows FF at over 1,500,000K with one window and five tabs running! Bitdefender is still inactive. Two Earthlink webmail tabs were constantly reloading themselves. Down to one webmail and a Yahoo page, still FF at over 1,200,000K, 67% memory used. All Chrome listings in Task manager are around than 160,000K.

Closed the FF window after clearing cache. Got plugin container error and Mozilla crash notification. Restarted FF in safe mode. One tab open playing a saved YouTube video link with no issues. Task Manager: 240,000K. Just deselected hardward acceleration (forgot to do earlier).

Will advise if I have further issues. Not thrilled about not having my a-v deactivated. If Bitdefender is the problem, not sure what I should use instead.

Are advertisements "cycling" on the Earthlink pages? How about using a ad blocker such as uBlock Origin to block ads? https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/
