When I shut down my Time Warner account, my nycap.rr.com email address will be lost, so I had to get a new email address. I have very important information on old emails sitting in my Thunderbird account. Will I still be able to access those emails in my inbox or will they be deleted when the Time Warner account is shut down?

To be safe, copy anything you want to keep into your Local Folders account in Thunderbird.
