Firefox runs progressively slower as it goes on and the cache fills up very quickly. What can I do?

As it says. My Firefox is on for about 12 hours a day but after about 2 or 3 hours it keeps stopping and the revolving circle comes on for a while. This is particulary bad in Facebook. The cache is set to 500meg but fills up after about 3 hours too.

I don't get this problem when using Edge browser.

What can I do? Firefox and Facebook are both fully up to date.

Update your graphics card drivers please as they are from 2016. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/86210/Intel-HD-Graphics-5500

The optimal cache size is default 350megs.

Ok, I deleted or have filled my notepad to the max and can not find commands that I am looking for. Am trying to turn off Safe Browsing Version 4 (temporary add-on) 1.0.0 (sbv4-gradual-rollout@mozilla.com)

Since running Win 10 how about just uninstall Firefox and install from a Full Version 56.0.1 Installer https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

The disk cache getting filled up is quite normal and shouldn't cause any problems. When Firefox gets slower then this usually indicates a memory problem and it is likely that Firefox is using (too) much memory. You can check the memory usage on the about:memory page. See also:

You can try to modify multi-process settings to see if this has effect.

  • set dom.ipc.processCount to 1 if it is currently set to a higher value (4)
  • disable multi-process windows in Firefox

You can disable multi-process windows in Firefox by setting these prefs to false on the about:config page.

  • browser.tabs.remote.autostart = false
  • browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 = false

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.
