Downloads menu bar UI not as clear as the old one in animation of download started
Love, love, love Firefox Quantum... but the downloads notification on the menu bar......
In the previous version it was obvious when downloading more than one item that the download had triggered with the download UI animation. On Quantum though, although it's fairly obvious when you start to download your first 'item', for subsequent downloads it's not clear like the old UI.
I realise that you have the downloads window but you don't always want to use that or click on the menu bar icon to see if the download has triggered; adding another user action. The previous animation made it obvious you had successfully started the download without the need to interact with the menu bar icon or opening the full downloads window.
Again.. a very small thing, and everything else is amazingly better, but this stuck out like a sore thumb to me.

If got this right. Text and download information is hard to read or it is hard to know when a download starts. Or both.... Not much can do for you on that : To submit suggestions for new or changed features, may I suggest: Feedback: https://qsurvey.mozilla.com/s3/FirefoxInput/ Don't think you're interested in changing the font size all over.
Now think (that gets me into trouble) you may not know that you can un-hide the Download Bar from Optimize so it is constantly present. This may clear up the text. And for info : https://www.howtogeek.com/333110/how-to-customize-firefox-quantum-and-remove-the-white-space-around-the-title-bar/ Here's a more comprehensive project which affects not only tabs but brings back the old "grid-style" options menu. https://github.com/axydavid/FirefoxUI/blob/master/README.md
It isn't completely possible to use the Australis design with Firefox 57, but depending on what you want, you might be able to customize the UI to look more like the old one: This project: https://github.com/wilfredwee/photon-australis lets you have the old tab bar appearance back in Firefox 57. You can remove the space around the address bar by right-clicking on the spaces, and choosing "remove from toolbar". Note the Black Theme is just a Example and can be found in Customize.
Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.
Thanks Pkshadow.
I'll post to the feedback link you mentioned. Apologies if I posted in the wrong location.
Thanks for the other suggestions I'll give them a go myself.
I work in support so I know a lot of folks don't get too geeky tweaking, so they use the browser as it comes. The download UI was clearer right from the start with a default Firefox install on the previous version and better from an accessibility perspective in my mind.
But again... I LOVE the new Firefox.. and I'm hoping that it gets market share back from Chrome.
Have a great one and thanks for your help
