In FF 57 the search bar in about:newtab does not appear to work. Why?

The search bar next to the navigation bar works but the one in newtab appears totally unreactive. I've checked that the onclick event handler is called although it does bring up a warning "The ‘content’ attribute of Window objects is deprecated. Please use ‘window.top’ instead."

PS had two graphics but they didn't want to load:-(
