FireFox Browser Fails to Launch; "Quits Unexpectedly" Immediately after launching in OSX. It happened when Chrome stopped working and would only show blank white or black screens. So I uninstalled Chrome restarted my MacBook. Then installed Chrome. After that restart FireFox would not work. Chrome now does. I've tried. Uninstalling and reinstalling fresh, Refreshing from Safe Mode, Disabling AddOns & Extensions via Safe Mode. I've tried to figure out some Script Errors (something about chrome tabs and chrome time?), but only could find articles on going into about:config to lengthen the timing on scripts. Nothing has helped.

I've spent hours on this and even took it to an IT Specialist; we can't figure this one out. Do I really need to re-image my machine to get FireFox back in working order? See Problem Details and System Config:

I assume that you do not get the Firefox crash reporter?

Maybe try to start Firefox via a terminal window to see if that shows some error messages that reveal what is going on.

From Terminal on Mac I see this:

/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -safe-mode [Parent 14790, Gecko_IOThread] WARNING: parent WaitForMessage() failed: 0x10004003 (ipc/rcv) timed out: file /builds/worker/workspace/build/src/ipc/glue/GeckoChildProcessHost.cpp, line 946 [Parent 14790, Gecko_IOThread] WARNING: Failed to launch tab subprocess: file /builds/worker/workspace/build/src/ipc/glue/GeckoChildProcessHost.cpp, line 647 [Parent 14790, Gecko_IOThread] WARNING: parent WaitForMessage() failed: 0x10004003 (ipc/rcv) timed out: file /builds/worker/workspace/build/src/ipc/glue/GeckoChildProcessHost.cpp, line 946 [Parent 14790, Gecko_IOThread] WARNING: Failed to launch tab subprocess: file /builds/worker/workspace/build/src/ipc/glue/GeckoChildProcessHost.cpp, line 647 [Parent 14790, Gecko_IOThread] WARNING: parent WaitForMessage() failed: 0x10004003 (ipc/rcv) timed out: file /builds/worker/workspace/build/src/ipc/glue/GeckoChildProcessHost.cpp, line 946 [Parent 14790, Gecko_IOThread] WARNING: Failed to launch tab subprocess: file /builds/worker/workspace/build/src/ipc/glue/GeckoChildProcessHost.cpp, line 647

I see "Failed to launch tab subprocess" 4 times. How do I fix that?

I just got this error in safe mode: Warning Unresponsive Script: chrome://global/content/bindings/browser.xml:276

I got that after changing browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 to false under about:config per instructions found here: https://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=28450

Update: I can now browse in Safe Mode. Whereas before it would just hang. However, closing the program and restarting results in the same error:

Quits Unexpectedly" Immediately upon launching in OSX

If can get up long enough...... Go the 3 Bar Menu then Options --> General ---> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 0 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. TRY 2 Restart Firefox after making these changes please.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Yeah, I already tried that... about: preferences > Performance > Unchecked: Use recommended performance settings and Use hardware acceleration when available.

Still crashes immediatly at start up.

Can you access the about:support page in safe mode or in normal mode?

Try to disable multi-process entirely to see if that prevents the error messages about creating tab sub processes.

You can disable multi-process windows in Firefox by setting these prefs to false on the about:config page.

  • browser.tabs.remote.autostart = false
  • browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 = false

You can also check for Sandbox issues.

I can access about:support from Safe Mode (SEE BELOW)

I already had this:

  • browser.tabs.remote.autostart = false
  • browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 = false

and checked the Sandbox; and found: a lot of these: -[ActivityTracker appDidLaunchOrBecomeFront:launched:] [910:<private>] -- <private> Maybe this will help: Removing excessive log: file:///Users/nasinu/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/firefox_2017-12-12-093130_M265554C3FVH8.crash

Yeah, I guess I stumped the FireFox Community... No updates for 2 days. Sigh.

I followed these steps and to remove everything associated with mozilla/firefox. Then emptied the trash and restarted, downloaded the 57.0.4.dmg and installed. Same issue... how in the world is this still an issue!?! Can anyone help? Obviously, I'm over looking something.
