I cannot unistall Firefox v 44.0.2 (Windows)

more options

I am having a problem in that Outlook (via Firefox) is not selecting some of my contacts. I decided to unistall Firefox and the download latest version and hope that this may sort it out.

I downloaded the latest and it seemed to download OK, but I note that there is an "old" version 44.0.2 still on the PC (installed in February 2016?), but I cannot uninstall it??

Did you go into the FireFox folder to find the uninstaller and try to uninstall it from there?

Sometimes the Firefox installer doesn't update old entries in the Windows registry. I'm not sure of the safest way to clean that out if that's the only issue, but it's worth taking a look on disk to see whether you actually have two Firefox installations. The most likely explanation for that would be coexisting 32-bit and 64-bit installations.

Here are the two likely locations:

  • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

Do you have a firefox.exe in both locations?

Note: Before removing anything, set your default browser temporarily to IE. This can avoid issues where Office applications like Outlook become incapable of opening any links.
