Every time I open Firefox, I get the checkbox confirming Firefox as my default browser, which it is. I uncheck the box so it will stop asking/showing, yet it always appears. In options, it is a checked box that I cannot uncheck. I am about to delete firefox and go back to IE and be done with it! If a fix involves uninstalling and reinstalling, I will go halfway and just uninstall.

Hi,

Would you try this :

Type in the address bar about:config (press Enter) (promise to be careful, if asked)

Type in the search bar :

browser.defaultbrowser.notificationbar and make sure its value is set to false ( = default)

Then type in the search bar :

browser.shell.checkDefaultBrowser and set its value to false (true = default)

Then close and restart Firefox.

As for your question why in Options, under Startup, you can't uncheck : 'Always check if Firefox is your default browser' - see this bug report :

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1189038

When you scroll down, you'll see :

"Bug 1041516 made it so that when you set Firefox as the default browser, checking for default status on startup also gets set. That's good but we didn't prevent the check on startup setting from being unchecked. So a user can sabotage themselves by opening the options tab and unchecking "Always check if Firefox is your default browser." This will put them in a state where another browser can be set as default without Firefox noticing. We should make this setting unable to be changed when Firefox is the default browser."
