After a typical download step on Firefox (v 60.0.2 - 64 bit) for Mail-Merge, all I get is a mass of characters in Notepad. I go to Add-ons but nothing shows up in Add-ons Manager. I don't see a way to search for M-M. I don't see a way to install the download. The file is: mail_merge-4.12.0-sm+tb.xpi .... I have TB v52.8.0 - 32 bit. Both FF and TB are up to date. I've never had this problem before with any downloads. I have Windows 7. Thank you

Why bring up Firefox if trying to install an add on to Thunderbird? They are 2 separate and independent programs.

If you have downloaded the add on open the add on tab in Thunderbird. Click Extensions. Click the icon that looks like a gear. Install from file.

Thank you. I downloaded from Firefox, went to Thunderbird Add-ons and proceeded with your instructions. It installed after a re-start. Problem solved!
