Add Security Exception Windows Keeps Popping Up

On a fairly new W10 laptop. Not much is on it, except TB and Avast.

I added my gmail account. I take the laptop to other places here in SF, the library, coffee shops, ... and when I do, often when I open TB, I see the popup:

"Add Security Exception" https://www.screencast.com/t/TNXe95iERp4g

I have to click Confirm Security Exception several times, but it usually goes away, even though the box to store the exception is checked by default.

Now, I am at home, and have clicked Confirm Security Exception many times, however, it keeps coming back!

Why does this happen, and is there a way to really keep this from reappearing?

Let's get a look at the certificate Thunderbird doesn't like. Could you click the "View" button in that dialog, and then look at the "Issued by" section? This could help identify a "man in the middle" that is intercepting all the messages passing between Thunderbird and Google's server.

There's a reasonably good chance that Avast is the man in the middle. You can turn off the "Mail Shield" feature and see whether that helps. The steps would be similar to the "Web Shield" feature mentioned in this article: How to troubleshoot security error codes on secure websites.

thanks. I've turned off the Mail Shield: https://www.screencast.com/t/tIS2yp64w, and it seems to work. Very strong message there.

As for the the link you provided, these steps work:

Open the dashboard of your Avast application. Go to Menu > Settings > Components and click Customize next to Web Shield.

The next one, "Uncheck the box next to Enable HTTPS Scanning", there is no "Enable HTTPS option: https://www.screencast.com/t/daMfn3ltma6.
