How to add default Search engine?
As too frequently happens, Firefox's printed instructions don't work.
I want to add a search engine and make it the default. Long pressing the search field brings up a Paste option but that is all.
I'd also like to delete several of the pre-installed Serch engines if possible.
I would also like to make ff the default browser. but those instructions also did not work.

The method of long-pressing on a search box to call up two choices (PASTE and ADD SEARCH ENGINE) worked on the 3 pages where I tried it. Could you give an example of a page where it doesn't work? Perhaps Firefox for Android didn't recognize it as a search box.
To set a search engine as default, the steps in this article should work: Manage my default search engines in Firefox for Android.
Usually to have Android prompt you to set a default browser, you first need to go into the Application settings and remove the designation of default browser from the current browser. The method for this varies between different versions of Android.
I get Paste as an option but not ADD SEARCH ENGINE.
You are long pressing and while doing that touching the magnifying glass?
Eureka!
I kept trying and just got the ADD option.
Thank you.
