Before mentioning "things to try," it would be really helpful to understand this part:
"The tech put the hard drive back in" -- back in where? Your old computer or your new computer?
The error message indicates Firefox is looking for a particular folder and it's not there. Possibly Firefox was installed and created a new profile folder, your tech deleted that folder and copied over your old folder. Unfortunately, Firefox doesn't understand this kind of change automatically, you may need to make some file edits. However, before giving steps for that, it's important to know whether that is what happened, or something else.
The tech removed the hard drive from the old computer to download everything to my new computer. Then he placed the old hard drive back in the old computer. I thought i would be able to take it from there getting my bookmarks and so on from the old computer, but thats when i got the alert above and haven't been able to do anything . so i lost all my bookmarks and plug ins and so on.
Okay, since your tech is not with us to answer questions, we can guess that he put some folders in a useful location but didn't update a critical file.
Could you try the steps in the article cor-el mentioned (How to run Firefox when your profile is missing or inaccessible) -- just the ones under:
"Method 2: Manually delete the profiles.ini file"
Hopefully then Firefox will discover the old folders in the expected location and load them for you.
