Can I buy an email address from GoDaddy and use Thunderbird only, avoiding going through G-Suite?

Thanks in advance for any advice on this:

Can I download ThunderBird on my MacBook Pro then use it for an email address I purchased from GoDaddy (old style, not the Windows 360) ?

I do not use iCloud and just recently went through heck and back with email after trying to use Mail with this address. It worked fine but then I was forced to download Chrome to use an app I really need.

The address is currently run through Gmail, and I plan to yank it from my email plan with them after this debacle.

Thanks again all

An email address must be hosted. Thunderbird only gets the mail from the host, be it godaddy, gmail or gandhi

But as long as godaddy are hosting the email address you should be able to access it using their sercureserver.net domain.
