Why doesn't the back button work with some website pages?

I have my phone set up to open a Firefox tab whenever I click an external link on Twitter. When I get done reading an article, I usually just hit the back button, and it brings me right back to Twitter. But for some reason, the back button doesn't work whenever I open up a link from The Washington Post. Anyone know why?
