Some solutions suggest there should be an "old profile" folder on mt desktop. There isn't. This is a bloody ridiculous situation to put people inot.

Fixed it myself. New install seems to have created a new profile and made it the default. I found the profile manager (navigate to about:profile) and found my profile was still ther so I maed it the default and it now looks OK. This, if deliberate, is extremely poor practice.

Note that Firefox 67 and later can use a dedicated profile for each of the Firefox update channels. For Release this would be a xxxxxxxx.default-release profile.
