`Thank you, SF Howes and Joseph Gaspard 49. I have disabled the Avast Mail Shield but the problem remains.

I wonder if the following could be relevant:

1. I have Google Drive on my PC with synchronization on one of my 3 Google account.

2. I use Thunderbird for all of my multiple e-mail accounts but configured Gmail to retain mail on the servers (IMAP, I believe). Could the multiple Gmail accounts all tying to synchronize cause delay?

If there's no delay when sending from your gmx or yahoo accounts, it's possible the gdrive sync is causing the problem. Note also that under Tools/Account Settings, Copies and Folders for the gmail accounts, you should uncheck 'Place a copy in' since gmail automatically copies sent messages to the Sent folder.

Thanks for your answer. However, since I have "lost" e-mails when I changed PCs or lost a laptop in the past, I wish to keep copies on the server. Is there another possible solution?

Gmail will automatically save sent messages to the Sent folder on the IMAP server, so that is why 'Place a copy in' should be unchecked. That may not fix the freezing when saving to Sent, but it's a standard recommendation for gmail (and outlook.com) accounts.

Your crash reports indicate a problem with Dropbox. Are you trying to store your profile on Dropbox? Also, recommend you update to the latest version of TB, 68, unless you have a critical add-on that's not available for 68.

Not storing my profile to dropbox that I know of. Could this be a default setting somewhere that I am not seeing? I only use dropbox for temporary transfer of file. Probably have not accessed it in 6 months at least.

Disable or uninstall Dropbox and see if it helps. Also, disable scanning of outgoing mail, as mentioned above, if it's in place, or add the TB profile folder as an exception, depending on your AV program. Starting the computer in Windows safe mode is a good way to test if any startup programs are causing the problem.
