Why is Firefox erasing my bookmark tags?

Ever since Firefox deleted the comment field from Bookmarks (please bring back that field), I have been putting some information in the Tags field. Unfortunately, from time-to-time Firefox erases everything in that field. I believe this happens whenever Firefox updates itself, but I have not verified this yet. If it does erase all tags during an update, can you please fix this? Until then, is there any way to prevent this (other than manually exporting & saving bookmarks, then re-entering everything later)?

Currently using Firefox 69.0.1 on Mac OS 10.14.6

It is not a good idea to misuse other fields to store data now that the previously available description field is gone. Most these fields only accept specific data, tags correspond to the Tags folder as shown in the Library and Firefox might do a check to validate this data or does a Places Maintenance check as set via the places.database.lastMaintenance pref. Some also use the keyword field to store data, but this field only accepts lowercase characters, so you would need some workaround for uppercase characters (e.g. A=aa).
