This began yesterday (Feb 9, 2020), when I refreshed a YouTube video I was watching, and suddently it was in desktop view. Since then, all my bookmarked YouTube links redirect to the desktop site, & any address I input with “m.youtube.com” redirects to “https://www.youtube.com/?app=desktop”. Clicking and unclicking “Request desktop site” did nothing, clearing the cache/cookies/history or checking for an update of Firefox yielded no results. It's very frustrating, because the desktop view on mobile does not allow me to adjust the video settings (eg captions, playback speed) or see my actual list of subscribed-to channels on the subscriptions page, not to mention how small everything looks and the fact that I have to zoom in to press most basic buttons.

All my Google searches yielded (apart from how to request the desktop view, which is the opposite of my problem) is that YouTube is discontinuing its “classic view,” but I don't see how that translates to Firefox redirecting every “m.youtube.com...” URL to “...?app=desktop”.

Any help with this issue would be appreciated!

I tried removing the extensions to see if it had an effect, and it did not. I disabled cookies, which did allow me to reach mobile YouTube(!), but this did not allow me to log in. Enabling cookies was the only way to be able to log in, but reintroduced the problem of redirecting to desktop. Enabling (except for 3rd party) & enabling (without tracking) had the same result of not allowing me to open mobile YouTube.

I do not know how to look at my DNS or what to look for.

Thanks again for your help!

Hi

I might be able to help with this.

In Firefox, clear your browsing history.

Then on your Android device screen should be three buttons, one o go back, one to go home and the other to see what is open. Tap that third icon and close Firefox.

Now open the Android Settings app, select Applications, and find Firefox. Select the option to clear the cache (do not clear data!).

Now restart your device. You should find that Firefox is a bit more back to normal.
