I have been successfully receiving and sending emails from my gmail account through my Thunderbird client app for some time, however I am suddenly no longer able to send gmail from Thunderbird. I have changed nothing in my settings. I now get an error message that connection to smtp.gmail.com has TIMED OUT. Does anyone know what the problem may be and how to fix it please?

It stopped sending about a week ago, an then started sending again the next day without me changing anything, but now it has not been able to send for the last 2 days again..
