Hi!

I upgraded (automatic upgrade) to Thunderbird version 78.4.0. After that incoming emails stop working. This is not TLS version problem - my provider supports TLS 1.3, changing minimum TLS version to 1 didn't solve this problem, also outgoing emails with SSL/TLS settings works correctly. Same problem with POP3 and IMAP. I tried contact my provider but they didn't find any problem on their side. I also tried change email password without success - Thunderbird didn't ask for new password or show error, that old password is incorrect. I'm also not able to set new email account in Thunderbird. Only solution is to set security to "none" - but I don't like it

Same problem on my side. Extra details of the problem on my side: I use an own domain which is hosted at a hosting firm. So my domain is "mydomain.nl" hosted at "hostingcompany.nl".

It's a shared hosting plan, so the certificates on the mailserver are of "hostingcompany.nl", not from "mydomain.nl". Once a year, when the certificate is renewed, I need to add the "hostingcompany.nl" as an exception and this has worked for 10 years or so, but stopped working after the last update.

I can only get my email working again when I remove all connection security on the IMAP and SMTP settings, but then I send a clear password over the public internet.

So please fix this bug (in my opinion).

No, problem is still there (ver. 78.5.0). I set security to "none" for now (not happy with this "solution")

I looked in here, but I have no details of the server or hosting companies concerned, so really I have nothing to go on to try and diagnose the issue. If someone wants to post some useful information including

  • Does Thunderbird work in Safe Mode?
  • Do you use anti-virus and firewall software? What is the version?
  • Who is the email provider?
  • Who is the internet provider?
  • What is the exact error message (verbatim please even if it is not in English)?
  • What steps did you take right before this happened?

As well as do the following.

  1. Open the menu Fx57Menu > Help > Troubleshooting Information, then click Copy text to Clipboard.
  2. Go to https://pastebin.com, paste the info from your Troubleshooting Information page, use the Create New Paste button to create a page containing your info, then copy the resulting URL (address) of the page created.
  3. Open a reply to this post, and paste the link to your troubleshooting information you just copied.

Hi Matt!

Thanks for trying to solve this problem.

1) Thunderbird Safe Mode didn't solve the problem 2) I use ESET Internet Security ver. 14.0.22.0 - disabling didn't solve the problem 3) Email provider is www.websupport.sk - https://www.cdn77.com/tls-test?domain=pop3.websupport.sk 4) I use local wifi internet provider. I also try connection through cell phone LTE without any success. 5) There is actually no error message. It show message in status bar: "ICS Production: Pripojene k pop3.websupport.sk..." (translation: Connected to pop3.websupport.sk...) This message just freezes there and nothing more happend. 6) Problem starts with upgrade to 78.x version of Thunderbird without any changes to configuration. Previous versions works ok.

I can create you test email account on my domain, if you want.
