Hi all,

I've been having this issue for a few days now, I've tried to uninstall, re-scan, reboot my pc and reinstall Firefox but they still PERSIST!! Every time I open firefox for the first time after turning on my pc, Avast pops up with the malware warnings. I've used Avast, Malwarebytes and AdwCleaner but nothing seems to be working. I've disabled and uninstalled the ad-ons as well.

I'm not sure how else to remove the malwares because it seems to be running from "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe".

Please help.

You may have ad/mal-ware. Further information can be found in this article; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed free to use malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

Could you try starting Firefox in its Safe Mode? Then Firefox will temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userChrome.css/userContent.css files, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.)

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any difference?

Many thanks for the suggestions, It seems that the problem has been solved.

Running firefox in safe mode didn't trigger the malware notification which helped decide the next steps.

I ran a scan with the AdwCleaner listed in the Troubleshoot page above and found that there was a trojan virus. It was recommended I run the clean option on AdwCleaner and that seems to have solved the issue!

All this came about when I started using the extension "AdBlocker Ultimate", but unsure if this could have caused the issue.
