Recently I was having trouble using Firefox with my web based Outlook email and asked Microsoft for support. In their reply they recommended that I reset Firefox.

I am reluctant to do so as I don't want to lose all my add ons which have accumulated over time as I am not sure about how to get them back if I lose them with a reset.

Is there a way to reset Firefox but keep my add ons etc?

I would appreciate your advice and thank you in anticipation.

Anthony

Refreshing Firefox {web link} is a LAST RESORT ! !

Refreshing Firefox -- easily fix most problems

If you're having problems with Firefox, refreshing it can help. The refresh feature fixes many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information like bookmarks and open tabs. Everything else, like user settings and add-ons, are removed. Note: Refresh saves your old profile to the desktop in a folder called Old Firefox.

Please explain the problem in detail. What happens? What is/are the exact error message(s) ?

Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Dear FredMcD,

I have been using Firefox for years with my Hotmail/Outlook. What started happening recently doesn't make sense to me but it happened on many occasions...to the point I now do my email with Google but use Firefox for everything else.

If I started a new message...I would be typing away and suddenly I had a blank new message screen in front of me. I would go back to the old draft and continue.

At the end I would press Send and off the message would go. I would then delete what I thought was the blank draft and it often turned out to be the first email in my inbox that got deleted.

I told you this probably wouldn't make sense but it happened many times. How do I get the old addons etc back?

Microsoft told me to clear the cache which I did and then reset (or did they say refresh... now I am not sure).

I am old and not real computer savvy and get stressed when things don't work well so am not sure what all your other instructions are above. I will now have a look at them.

I do thank you for your help and I want to go back to Firefox for my email

Websites change how they do things from time to time. Sometimes this causes troubles for web browsers like Firefox. Note: Many are complaining about issues with Facebook.

Microsoft told me . . . and then reset (or did they say refresh... now I am not sure).

It used to be called Reset. Now it is called Refresh. For more, see: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1364932#answer-1475765

I use the Thunderbird e-mail program for my online emails. I like the display better than using the webpage Microsoft provides.
