I use Thunderbird to read all my email accounts, including Gmail accounts. I find it easier to keep all in the same place. Since I had to get a new PC and reloaded Thunderbird onto the system, with all my old emails, I have not been able to keep the Gmail account information in Thunderbird. I am continually asked to provide the password and then allow Google access. I do this over and over again. We tried making sure that the passwords were in the <Tools> <Preferences>. Even on the one occasion when they were listed, not long afterwards, they disappeared. Secondly, even if I provide passwords & allow access, I no longer can send emails on Google accounts, only receive them. This has been exceedingly frustrating. I hope someone can help me.

In Preferences, make sure Cookies are allowed. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/automatic-conversion-google-mail-accounts-oauth20

You have to sign in twice, once for incoming mail and once for outgoing. For outgoing, compose a test message and send it. It will bring up the sign in window for outgoing mail.

With the OAuth2 authentication method, your primary Gmail password will no longer be stored by Thunderbird. In place of the password, a token is saved instead. The token looks like a long string of random characters and it's issued after you allow Thunderbird access to Gmail.
