Close the Message Pane (F8), select the message(s), right-click, Delete Message or Delete Selected Messages.

To what purpose? I find the vast majority of folk looking to do this think opening the mail tells someone they opened it, or that opening the mail from an unknown source somehow represents a security risk. Neither of which are strictly true, but suited Microsoft case when outlook and outlook express failed to have just about any security. Instead of admitting a problem they set about frightening the whole world about opening mail.

So please what is your purpose?
