Bookmarks saved in incorrect folder

When a new bookmark is created, it isn't saved in the specified location (which I will henceforth call the "folder").

For example: I'm on a page I want to bookmark, so I select Bookmarks>Bookmark Current Tab. In the Location it already has the folder I want, for example, "Math". I click Save.

Naturally, I expect the bookmark to be saved in the Math folder. But it's not. Instead, it will be in the "Bookmarks Menu" folder (which is the outer folder that contains Math). If I select Bookmarks>Edit This Bookmark, the location will show "Bookmark Menus", not "Math". If I try to use the bookmark, it's in Bookmark Menus. If I then change it to Math, the bookmark will now be saved in the correct folder.

The same thing happens if I select "Choose" when originally creating the bookmark, and then select the folder. The bookmark will be created in Bookmarks Menu.

I've learned to always (or almost always) remember to edit each bookmark after creating it, but it's still a very annoying bug. It's been like that for as long as I can recall, and is still the way in 115.0.1.

Hi, thank you for sharing your Add-ons list. You have "Default Bookmark Folder" which used to work by visibly changing the save dialog to show where it planned to move the bookmark, but maybe that visible indication stopped working and now it moves it after you select the correct folder? That would be bad...

As long as you are typically managing save locations yourself, you probably should disable the extension. That would be over on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. On the right side, find the "Manage Your Extensions" heading.

Click the blue slider switch for "Default Bookmark Folder" to disable the extension.

Any improvement?
