I have Windows Vista w/service pack 2/Windows Media Player 11/Adobe Flash Player PlugIn etc all updated. When trying to play Roadrunner video my Internet connection freezes up: also when browsing safe web sites etc. Also, cannot play Roadrunner Radio in Firefox, only works on Internet Explorer. Time Warner Cable cannot solve this issue. Please tell me what I can do. i really prefer Mozilla Firefos for my Roadrunner service overall, but need to work out these issues.

I have tried the solutions on here, including clearing download history, disabling add-ons, resinstalling FF, etc. but without success. I have, however, found a solution with which I am completely happy. Switch to Chrome - I have not had a single problem since! Sorted! (And you can import all your FF bookmarks!).

I had the same problem on Linux, Ubuntu 10.10. I tried purge/fresh install, tried no add-ons, safe-mode, etc, all to no avail. Finally, I downloaded Chrome and noticed I didn't have the problem anymore in Firefox. I can now use them both without a problem. After four days without freezing, it seems to be completely fixed. I'm wondering if there is something in the profile that newer versions of Firefox might be missing. Strange how installing a different browser would fix the behavior of this one.

I am using fireFox for many years. but it started giving me not responding error since ver 7.0 and keeps freezing since the last update. I really don't want to switch to chrome or other browser. Come on Mozilla Developers, fix this problem in new version.

Anyone with similar problems.
By all means read this thread and follow advice if it seems appropriate, but if you want specific advice about your own problem it is best to start your own thread by asking your own question. Please follow the links and prompts from:

Actually there can be lot of reasons. In most cases, a plugin an addon a virus or may be registry error. Check out this: http://reallyhowto.com/fix-firefox-keeps-freezing-crashing-slow-issue/ Worked like a charm after installing it.

Thanks for the comment jackieaustin,

I agree there may be several reasons for problems, but I am not sure I entirely agree with the advice you linked to. For instance: stopping updating Firefox, and not updating add-ons; is likely to cause problems not resolve them.

As I myself said it is better; in my opinion; to start a thread for your own specific problem. ( or look at Firefox kb listings i.e. Firefox is slow, stops working or takes too long to start )

I've had two problem with my Windows 7 x64 from freezing on my Pc and had no other choice but to press the restart button ??? However I have a solution...

First problem was installing the new hardware driver version 4.3.790.0 for the Nvidia 8 series graphic card (GeForce 8500 GT) and to solve it, I needed to go to Nvidia Control Panel then to "Adjust image settings with preview" and select "Use my preference emphasising", since my Acer P205H LCD monitor is a 2D and not a 3D model screen...

Second problem from freezing my Pc when I installed the new Firefox version 12.0 browser and to solve that issue was go to Tools, Options, Advanced, General tab and un-tick "Use hardware acceleration when available" box... Now I have no problems with my Pc from freezing and all working fine and hope this maybe helpful to someone here. Good luck!

P.S. If you are still having problems with Firefox and all else has failed then I just created a portable version, so there no need to install the software and it works on both x32 & x64 Windows... Now you will need to completely remove all of the Firefox installation files and also use a register cleaner and delete any remaining files from the hard drive directory...

Here you will need to go to organize folder option and select show hidden files!

C:\Users\Name\AppData\Local\ & C:\Users\Name\AppData\Roaming\

So all you need to do next is download my portable version at 'http://j.mp/firefoxport' then place this Mozilla folder to "C:\Program Files\" HD directory and create a shortcut of the 'firefox.exe' file and added it to your desktop and pin it to taskbar or start program menu...

Hardware acceleration is turned off if as a trouble shooting step safe mode is tried.

Re firefoxport Are you re-inventing the wheel

Some users may consider using a portable version as an additional version, instead of uninstalling the main version of firefox. Also bare in mind Firefox has sync possibilities:
