I'm running Firefox 3.6.10 on an XP machine. I can get Firefox to get me directly to my Google home page and then to an application, e.g. mail. However, when I minimize an open (mail) window and attempt to open a new window by double clicking on the Mozilla Firefox icon, on the desktop, I get no response. I'd really appreciate any assistance offered. Thanks.

How about using {Ctrl + N} to open a new window, does that work?

If not, do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode?

Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."

If not, see this:

Thank you for the suggestions. I'll try them out and will get back to you either way.
