Intermittently, charts at this website fail to load, or load very slowly: http://ih.advfn.com/p.php?pid=charts&symbol=N^MSFT&redir=1&period=8

It usually works, but it used to work 100%. I upgraded to Firefox 3.6 around the time it began failing. Java or a .js file seems to be used.

Try clearing your browser cache.

Tools > Clear Recent History... - hit Details and make sure only Cache is selected, then select Everything and hit the Clear Now button.

Thanks - I've done that before, and I've deleted a folder this website creates for cached data. Both solve the problem - - for a while.

Is there a reason for this? How often is it needed?

I have no idea. Without login credentials I can't view the page that you linked.
