I've had to do a fresh install of XP Pro and reload Firefox. I had my bookmarks saved on an external backup drive. How do I import a folder full of bookmarks into FirefoX?

It depends on how you backed the bookmarks.
If you backed them up to an HTML file, see importing Bookmarks from an HTML File.
If you used a JSON file, follow the restoring bookmarks section in the backing up and restoring bookmarks article.
If you backed up the the places.sqlite file, you can copy it back to your current profile folder.
