I had set Firefox to "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session". But by unchecking this box it does not return to normal mode.

I had set Firefox to "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session". Now I wish to revert to normal mode. I went to tools -- Options -- Privacy and unchecked the box next to "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session". But by unchecking this box it does not return to normal mode. Now how to get back to normal mode of browsing?

Restart Firefox and you should be back in the "normal" mode.

Thank you friend but it is not that simple. Whatever be the number of times you restart Firefox, the buttons "Stop private browsing" and "Clear recent history"do not get enabled under "Tools". Normal mode is not at all available.

Make sure that you do not have the -private switch added to the command line in the desktop shortcut.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Thank you Cor-el. I think yr advice "Make sure that you do not have the -private switch added to the command line in the desktop shortcut. " hits the nail on the head. But being a non-techie, I do not know how and where to look for this switch and how to remove it. I shall be grateful for a step-by-step guidance from you. Thanks in advance. Nataraj
