I had the history bar down left side on screen in Firefox 3 and then downloaded and installed Firefox 4. I now can't find a way to clear it off screen. Probably a simple answer! Thanks in advance

Doesn't that sidebar have a close button?

You can go to View > Toolbars

Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.

No, no 'close' button there. Also the Menu bar does not show a way to close the History showing on screen. I'm not familiar yet with these new 'stripped down' browsers I'm afraid but if there is answer I can usually find it. Not this one though!

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Hurray! Reinstating the Firefox 4 default theme got the all-important little 'x' back, so I was able to get rid of that left, vertical HISTORY bar. Now have full width screen again. Thankyou cor-el for your help.
