Does MacOS have a "View" menu? If so, try

View > Toolbars > Customize

This should display a palette of available buttons you can drag into your toolbar. If Home is not displayed anywhere, it should be back in the palette.

You should update to the latest Firefox 3.6.17 that has just been released.
