When I attempt to sign in to my hotmail account - the browser opens an about:blank page and THEN goes to the sign in page.

I see a quick "about:blank" page opened BEFORE the browser takes me to the hotmail sign in page. I am very nervous about this as a hijacker, so I do not continue. I have attempted to reinstall the older version of Firefox, but am still ending up with this about:blank - so all I have been able to do is completely uninstall Firefox. I would like to use it, but can't get rid of about:blank only.

There's an easy way to test it.

At the top of this forum where this post appears, you see mozilla .com the the left of the web address. That's called the How do I tell if my connection to a website is secure? and can be used to determine where you are when you browse to a site. Click that and in you'll see that it belongs to Mozilla. See screenshot on the left.

Do the same with the Hotmail site you land on. You can click the More Information button and then click the Security link. The site stores cookies on your computer, so click the Cookies button and you should see that the cookies are loading for .live.com. See screenshot on the right.

If this suggestion resolves the problem for you, please click the Solved it button next to this post after you log in into the forum. This will help others searching for a solution to the same problem.

Thanks.

So my first cookie is "h.live.com" with ANONCk next to it. I am assuming this is NOT what it should be.

No, not at all. If you see that then you'e on a genuine Microsoft Hotmail site.

That screenshot was taken from my own installation where I receive notifications when users respond to something I've suggested.

That is probably normal.

Are you clicking a link on another page if that happens?

Does that also happen if you type http://www.hotmail.com in the location bar?

It does it several times, but yes when I go to Hotmail.com it also does it. It pops up when I tried to go to an insurance site. Luckily I did not see it when I went to my bank site. I have just been worried about someone hijacking my browser or getting other information
