Embedded youtube videos won't play, I'm fine on youtube.com. But all other sites I've tried don't play, I just get a black box with the play arrow. I'm using Firefox 8.0, and have updated flash.

This happens on gawker.com for instance and I've cleared the cookies from that site, but still no luck. This just started recently. Any help would be appreciated.

If you use extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extension) like Adblock Plus or NoScript or Flash Block that can block content then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
