When I hover over an icon on a website (eg Met Office weather symbols) a message used to appear which explained what the symbol means. Now thehover function does not work. It works fine in IE, but no longer with Firefox.

You can check if the Boolean pref browser.chrome.toolbar_tips is still true on the about:config page.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

  • Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
  • Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
  • Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
  • Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Hi cor-el. Many thanks for your suggestions. browser.chrome.toolbar_tips is still Boolean true and I tried the other suggestions too. Still the same happens (or doesn't happen as it should).
