the older version would let me drag the icon bookmark to the tool bar but now I have to make a whole new toolbar just to add the one bookmark i loose too much page room this way. Is there a way to do it like the old version?

Removing the favicons, changing the titles to 1-4 characters without spaces, and putting some or most into folders still readily accessible from the bookmarks toolbar would help a lot. Also changing the size of the bookmarks toolbar text and color with a Style to differentiate between folders and bookmark/bookmarklets would help, see
