how to delate a bookmark? blue star doesn't do it

I want to delete various individual bookmarks, including some I have imported from Safari. I select the bookmark, click on the blue star, click on "remove," but nothing happens.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
