My browser is locked on two tabs when it opens. The first is a crashed session for several months ago. The second is the Mozilla home page.

I have change the start specifications in Preferences to "show my windows and tabs from last time" and specified the Home Page. These settings are retained in Preferences during the session, but are lost upon closing Firefox. The next opening goes back to the previous windows and tabs and the Preferences settings are not retained.

Firefox is being used with five accounts in Mac OSX. The other accounts do not exhibit this problem.

I am suspicious that there is a corrupted file with the particular Mac OSX account.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Delete the sessionstore.js [2] file and possible sessionstore-##.js [3] files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

Hi dlnordeen,

You should take a look at the Knowledge Base article How to set the home page. There are steps in that article to reset your homepage preferences to default. I would try that first to clear out any strangeness. If that works, you can try setting your homepage again to your personal preference.

If that doesn't work you should look at the article Preferences not saved.

Hopefully this helps!

Thanks for the prompt reply. The change that appears to contribute to the improvement is from relabeling the "prefs.js" which created a new one.

The startup specifications are now retained upon new startup. However, the new startup now results in a single window with one tab of "Restore Session". The second window and the various tabs no longer are displayed on opening Firefox.

It seems that a long-previous force quit or crash is being retained creating the "Restore Session" on new startup.

Cor-el, I was able to solve the problem with your suggestions. The folder didn't have either "sessionstore.js [2] file" or "sessionstore-##.js [3] files", so I tried deleting only "sessionstore.bak". No improvement.

I then tried deleting both "sessionstore.js" and "sessionstore.bak". The result fixed the problem. After several days of use, the problem has remained fixed. I also observe that the Firefox start-up may be faster.

Thanks for your help.
