Are you referring to the search engine used when you type a KeyWord in the Location/Address Bar?

Or the search engine used as default by the Search Bar?

Type about:config in the Location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key. When you see a warning, click "I'll be careful, I promise!" button.

  • Preferences can be Reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

In the Filter bar, type keyword.URL Right click the preference keyword.URL and click Modify

click OK

-> In the Filter bar, type browser.search.defaultenginename right-click the preference browser.search.defaultenginename and choose Modify

  • To use Yahoo, type Yahoo
  • To use Google, type Google

click OK

In the Filter bar, type browser.search.selectedEngine right-click the preference browser.search.selectedEngine and choose Modify

  • To use Yahoo, type Yahoo
  • To use Google, type Google

click OK

Close the about:config tab and Restart Firefox.

Thanks for your reply and help. I tried the above and in the top left search bar I see Yahoo. But the main search on the page(in the center is google search)also. I set Yahoo as my homepage, but it won't come up when I open my browser.

If you are referring to the Search on the Default Firefox Homepage (about:home), then that can not be changed, not easily atleast. The default homepage is hardcoded to use Google as its search provider.

To change the Firefox Default Homepage search provider you need to edit aboutHome.xhtml and aboutHome.dtd; Which will take Web Development Coding skillz.

If you are having trouble with the homepage Preference not saving after following the steps Here: How to set Homepage. Then you may need to refer to these two articles:
